How to Add Null Zones and Curves to X-Plane 11/12

Sometimes our joystick is not behaving to our liking, or maybe it’s just old. Here’s how you add Null Zones and Curves to X-Plane 11 and 12.

Enter Joystick Settings

Step 1 : Click on “Settings”

Step 1 : Main Menu

Step 2 : Click on “Joystick” (no. 1) if you haven’t, then click on “add response curve” (no.2) for any axis that you want to add the NZs/ Curves to

Step 2 : Entering Curves settings

Null Zones

Follow the steps in the video. This is for setting any curves, but portrayed is a null zone.

Step 3 : Adding Null Zones and Curves

It will show “Current : X.xx -> Y.yy” The Xs is the joystick, the Ys is after the curves.

Step 4 : Deleting points (if necessary)

Deleting Points : Click on the circle icon to delete any point

Interpolate Mode : Different curve shapes

Curves

Step 5 : Curves -> Less sensitive near center

In this curve, the joystick is less sensitive near center, so you can make minor adjustments without making it abrupt. I like this setting for the rudder pedals especially (I don’t have one) since it allows you to maintain centerline on takeoff but you’re also able to make sharp turns

Step 6 : Curves -> More sensitive near center

In this curve the joystick is more sensitive near the center, probably useful if you don’t want to move your hands so much. Me? I never use this one in ANY sim.

Hope this helps!
