Opentrack : Frugal TrackIR

Man, Virtual Reality is so expensive isn’t it? And don’t get me started on the GPU. Lucky there’s Opentrack.

No, the Opentrack we’re talking here is NOT this one either (the one used for planning railways)

Opentrack is some sort of TrackIR, if you know what TrackIR is. For those who don’t, TrackIR is a headtracker. For simulators. So you don’t have to use your mouse to move your head around. This software tracks your face, so it makes it as if you’re using a Virtual Reality headset… With the screen limited to a fixed one in front of you.

So it’s basically what VR is right? Um, not quite. It’s a flat-screen experience.

Download Opentrack from here, then when you install and open, it will show the window like the screenshot above.

Then change the tracker into Neuralnet Tracker. That’s it!

Well, not quite. You have to tune the filters, deadzones, etc. But just by doing this you have a poor man’s TrackIR. Assuming your webcam is half-decent, of course.

Download Opentrack at : https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack, go to the “Releases” page.

This is my config below, just open the config folder (click on the “profile” with the downwards arrow, click on “open configuration directory”, paste my config, and you’re ready to go. With some minor tweaking, of course, adjusting to your webcam.

Good luck! Comment below if you need any help!
