How to Generate Mind Maps with ChatGPT/Gemini (No Image Generation or Pro needed)

Mermaid is a text-based diagram editor, basically.

So here’s the thing. LLMs like Gemini and ChatGPT operate using text. They learn text, they spew out text. Garbage in, garbage out. They have image generation capabilities (like nano banana can do it well now) but they’re still fairly limited.

We’re trying to eliminate the variable by syncing our “language” to them, using text.

So, whenever you want to do this, just

Generate me (what diagram) using mermaid.

For example,

Generate me a basic organizational structure diagram, one head of the office, then three supervisors, then team members, using mermaid

When you’re done, copy and paste the resulting code into Mermaid

When you’re done, you can save the diagram into multiple formats. Yes, you gotta create an account and login first, but hey, it’s free.
