Sometimes we need to override the choice of network adapters. We want to use this one, but Windows selects that one. This is particularly a problem when installing WSL, as it installs additional virtual Ethernet. Also in Matric.

This is how you prioritize network adapters system-wide
- Get into Network Connections
Method 1 (manual)
- Enter Control Panel
- You can open the Run Window (Win+R) -> type “control” -> ok/enter
- Search “control panel” in Start
- All Control Panel Items

- Network and Sharing Center
- Change adapter settings (left)

Method 2 (paste in file explorer address bar)
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections

2. When you’re in, right click -> properties in adapter, or double-click.

3. Properties again

4. TCP/IPv4 -> Properties (again)

5. If you have a custom DNS server setup, it’s fine. Click on advanced…

6. Untick automatic metric, write what you want (even 1 is OK). This is the actual network adapter priority, 1 being the highest.
7. Click on ok, ok, close, close
DONE.
That is how you prioritize network adapters. Hope this helps!
