Have you played War Thunder with EAC on, oh for playing even Ship Arcade battles, or Air Realistic Battles? Or you just leave it on all the time, because it’s just a small overhead? Yeah, same here. However, one day when I booted up WT, this happens:

TEN FPS?? That’s… weird, Just to say. Let’s check the task manager…

More oddities…. Come ON, it’s a Ryzen 7700X! This game runs fine on my i7-4790! The CPU 2 shouldn’t be utilized that much..
Troubleshooting Attempt
I spent days trying to identify the issue. List of things I’ve tried:
- Turning off EAC. This works.
- Switching power plan between Ultimate Performance, High Performance, and Balanced. No joy.
- Some say LED controlling programs are causing this. Tried turning them off and force closing. Still the same.
- Uninstalled Riot Vanguard, since it’s a driver-level anti cheat too, same with EAC. Still the same.
- I have NetLimiter, because I share my bandwidth with my family. Turned that off, uninstalled, no change.
- Tried launching the aces.exe directly, opening as admin. No change.
- Tried excluding the WT folder, all EXEs inside, the EAC .exe and .sys driver in C:/Program Files(x86) in Windows Defender, still the same.
- Tried setting “run program as administrator” in each EXEs’ properties, still the same
- Tried repairing, uninstalling EAC with or without Admin privileges, still the same. High CPU Usage and Low FPS…
- Tried activating the built in admin account for Windows (since AMD last time said there’s performance gains) and running WT, and the game won’t even get past the EAC splash screen.
I went to sleep. It was 3 AM.
Gaijin’s Response
Before I went to sleep, I contacted Gaijin, and got an answer the next day:

Typical “Customer Service” answer, copy pasting from a script.
Troubleshooting Part 2
I decided to dive deeper. I tried:
- Turning off Power Automate
- Closing SlyphyHornPlus
- Closing Spotify
- Closing Laragon
- With no success… I tried creating a fresh user account, and… it WORKS ! The problem is NOT hardware then.

Curious… So the problem lies inside the list of programs that my USER launched, either I launched them or automatically.
I tried closing… Overwolf. Along with its child programs. Overwolf is an overlay program, I mainly use it in Warframe in conjunction with Alecaframe. Because Warframe sucks at explaining things. I need stuff to be more interactive. But I digress. Back to War Thunder.
The Culprit
I tried closing Overwolf, and Voila! 60FPS! But really? I tried closing War Thunder, reopening Overwolf, and then reopening WT. Same problem as before. Okay. I tried force-closing Overwolf and its child processes while in game, and… War Thunder straight closes. OK, that’s weird. But we found the culprit!
But is uninstalling Overwolf the only solution?
No, Overwolf has a built in setting, which lists which programs/games you want it to run for, and there you go, there’s War Thunder! I tried excluding War Thunder, and tried launching it. Gone! The problem is gone! 60 constant FPS! (I am limited by my monitor, not my PC Build). Hmm… needs more testing… I tried relaunching, and again, and again… But the problem didn’t come back.
So there it is! Now how would one exclude WT from Overwolf, if you have it installed? Here are the steps:
Excluding Games in Overwolf

- Press the Gear icon near the Discord icon on the top right

You will be presented with a list of games here. Scroll down, or search for the app name.

Turn off the integration for War Thunder, by pressing the switch. It should look like the above after you have.
For Further Consideration
That’s it! It’s disabled for War Thunder only now. “SF” is “Shots Fired” which orchestrates OBS (for streaming or recording) according to in game events. Weird thing is, the high CPU usage / low FPS problem is still there even though we haven’t activated any overlays. It seems like Overwolf is hooking into the War Thunder executable and is conflicting with EasyAntiCheat somehow.
Hope this solves your problem! If there are any other issues, just tell below!
